This year we will be carefully monitoring punctuality and will be charging a $20 late fee to parents who are habitually tardy in the morning and afternoon.\u00a0\u00a0 If you arrive early, outside play is until 8:30am, at which time the teacher will escort the children up to the classroom.\u00a0 If you arrive after 8:30am, missing the morning line-up, it is considered late and you will be charged $20.\u00a0 After 8:30am please escort your child up to the classroom and make your late payment.\u00a0 You can avoid a morning late fee if, for instance, you have a Doctor\u2019s appointment at 9:00am and then bring your child to school during outdoor play time from 10:30am \u2013 10:50am, while all of the children and their teachers are on the play yard.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>PICK UP TIME<\/strong><\/p><p>The prompt midday collection time is 12:30, if you arrive after 1:00 it is considered late.\u00a0 The prompt full day collection time is 3:00, if you arrive after 3:15 it is considered late.\u00a0\u00a0 The late fee is due immediately.\u00a0\u00a0 Your children and their teachers appreciate the effort so that precious cognitive functioning hours are not wasted, unnecessary interruptions are prevented, and teachers can move on to other family obligations after the school day.<\/p><p>Your child will need to bring to school every day:<\/p><p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>* Back Pack<\/strong>\u00a0large enough to hold artwork and a lunch box.<\/p><p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>*\u00a0 Lunch Box<\/strong>\u00a0with a nutritious morning snack, drinks, and a healthy lunch.<\/p><p><strong>Friday dismissal is at 12:30 for all students.\u00a0 Teachers are engaged in Curriculum Meetings each Friday afternoon.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>SPECIAL ACTIVITIES &amp; DAYS<\/strong><\/p><p>The\u00a0<u>SPORTS<\/u>\u00a0lesson will be on Tuesday each week.\u00a0 Athletic (tennis) shoes are recommended for all day.\u00a0 Girls should wear shorts.<\/p><p>The<u>\u00a0MUSIC<\/u>\u00a0lesson will be weekly, on Wednesday.<\/p><p><u>NEWSTIME<\/u>\u00a0presentations will begin next week.\u00a0 See the schedule to note your child\u2019s dates.<\/p><p><u>SHOW &amp; TELL<\/u>\u00a0is each week on Friday.\u00a0 The children need to remember the topic or type of item in an effort to be responsible.<\/p><p><u>COOKING &amp; STORYTIME<\/u>\u00a0sign-up sheets are on the bulletin board to the left as you enter the door.\u00a0 It is a really fun way for parents to participate at school.<\/p><p><u>HOMEWORK<\/u>\u00a0will be given in a few weeks.\u00a0 The assignments will be written in the Parent-Teacher Communication Book.\u00a0 Please sign it upon completion.<\/p><p><u>LIBRARY<\/u>\u00a0time will be weekly, on Tuesday.\u00a0 Your child will choose a book from our shelves to enjoy at home.\u00a0 Fostering responsibility, the book is to be returned the following Tuesday.<\/p><p><strong>OFF DAYS<\/strong><\/p><p>If your child will be missing any school please let us know in advance so that we can prepare some work to take away that has been taught previously.\u00a0 When your child returns to school he will be expected to complete missed work at home.\u00a0 Some tutoring may be needed to cover the missed concepts.<\/p><p><strong>CLOTHES<\/strong><\/p><p>Please send a change of clothes to be kept at school to include a school shirt, pants, and underwear.\u00a0 Remember to label all clothes, bags, and belongings.\u00a0 Be sure to include a toothbrush and small toothpaste to keep at school.<\/p><p><strong>HYGIENIC ITEMS<\/strong><\/p><p>We thank you for assisting and supporting our hygienic efforts by providing a box of tissues, container of wipes, and hand sanitizer to be used by the children at school.\u00a0 Restocking of these items, with each new term, is appreciated.<\/p><p><strong>MEDICAL<\/strong><\/p><p>Please be reminded to provide us with any contact or medical up-dates on your child\u2019s existing file.<\/p><p>As always, we make ourselves available if you have any questions or concerns.\u00a0 The telephone number at school is 325-3795, and you can send email to me at schoolhousenassau@gmailcom.\u00a0 We look forward to getting to know you and your child this year.<\/p><p>Sincerely yours,<\/p><p>Ms. Andra, Ms. Helen, and Ms. Kara<\/p><p><br \/><br \/><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-5532\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Curriculum<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-5532\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-5532\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p><strong>Sharks Curriculum<\/strong><\/p><p>Our four-year-old students are developing language, social-emotional, cognitive, literary, and motor skills at a rapid pace. Each student has an individual learning style that we are increasingly aware of and able to teach to. The teacher-to-student ratio is excellent and our classroom space is enriched with an abundance of age-appropriate curriculum resources. It is with great pride that we engage and support our students and their parents in the learning process as we set the foundation for a lifetime of positive learning experiences.<\/p><p>The curriculum at The Little Schoolhouse for the 4-year-old class is play-based and theme oriented. It is a compilation of curriculum that has been developed by the teachers at The Little Schoolhouse.<\/p><p>Every week the focus is on a specific theme, letter, number, shape and value. \u00a0Math and language activities are planned relating to the theme with a multi-sensory, hands-on approach that encourages the child\u2019s sense of exploration and discovery.<\/p><p>In addition to creative applications of appropriate curriculum we include Handwriting Without Tears. This is a dynamic and interactive handwriting program that starts with small motor skills and facilitates posture, pencil grip and accurate letter formation through a series of multi-sensory skills. This reading and writing readiness program has a fantastic rate of success and achievement. \u00a0<\/p><p>All activities including Sports, Music, Spanish and Science are developmentally appropriate.<\/p><p>Children are guided to respond positively in social situations by using encouraging words and self-control. We are attentive to children as they gain social confidence by assisting them to use kind words in sharing situations<\/p><p>Various approaches to learning are used to keep the students learning and interested. As an example, for a Space theme, we might make a moonscape using flour and salt dough, and then cut and paste planets on to a construction paper solar system.\u00a0<\/p><p>At other times we sing songs, read stories, use visual displays and puppets to enhance and facilitate our literacy skills.<\/p><p>Children and teachers alike enjoy learning in the four-year-old Sharks classroom at The Little Schoolhouse.
