{"id":685,"date":"2021-02-24T12:49:01","date_gmt":"2021-02-24T12:49:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/schoolhousenassau242.com\/devschool\/?p=685"},"modified":"2021-04-08T11:55:00","modified_gmt":"2021-04-08T11:55:00","slug":"how-tv-and-other-devices-effects-your-child","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/schoolhousenassau242.com\/devschool\/how-tv-and-other-devices-effects-your-child\/","title":{"rendered":"HOW TV (and other devices) EFFECTS YOUR CHILD"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"685\" class=\"elementor elementor-685\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-aa90578 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"aa90578\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-e69201d\" data-id=\"e69201d\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b45145b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b45145b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong><em>Who is the Variable?<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p>Effective teachers understand the answer to this question.\u00a0 Indeed, they know that the real answer is not\u00a0<u>what<\/u>\u00a0the variable is, but\u00a0<u>who!<\/u>\u00a0 Great teachers know who the variable is in the classroom:\u00a0<u>They are.<\/u><\/p><p>Let\u2019s consider this statement more closely\u2026\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong><em>Who is the variable in the classroom?<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p>For example, you could all predict which teacher will send the most students to the principals office this year, and next, and the next.\u00a0 How do you know this without the class rosters?\u00a0 The answer is simple.\u00a0 The main variable is not the students, it is the teacher.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong><em>What if the students do poorly?\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>If the best teacher gives an assignment and the student do poorly, whom does she blame?\u00a0 (Herself)<strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>If the worst teacher gives an assignment and the students do poorly, whom does she blame?\u00a0 (kids,\u00a0 parents, administration, MTV\u2026)\u00a0 Whose behavior can a teacher actually control in her classroom?\u00a0\u00a0 (Her own)\u00a0\u00a0<em>The answers speak for themselves\u2026<\/em><\/p><p>The variable is how the teachers respond.\u00a0 Good teachers strive to improve, focusing on something they can control: their own performances.\u00a0 Other teachers wait for something else to change.\u00a0 Great teachers look to themselves for answers, while poor teachers look elsewhere, and they can wait a very long time.<\/p><p><strong>When we center on our own behavior, we feel empowered to make a difference!<\/strong><\/p><p>Clearly, the best teachers accept responsibility for their own classrooms and the worst teachers do not.\u00a0<\/p><p>When focusing on classroom management matters, and we talk about behavior issues, whose behavior do you think we talk about? The teachers, of course.\u00a0 Otherwise, it is too overwhelming and defeated.\u00a0 When we center on our own behavior, we feel empowered to make a difference.<\/p><p>At all levels of our school systems, effective teachers take responsibility.\u00a0 Some superintendents blame the school board, others work to educate the members.\u00a0 Some teachers lament the worst group of students ever, while others rise to the challenge of making every class the best.\u00a0 Most educators, from time to time, have felt they are at the bull\u2019s eye of the community\u2019s concerns.\u00a0 Great teachers place themselves in the bull\u2019s eye!<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong><em>How do we deal with the demands of others?\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>We must put the criticisms of schools in context to survive.\u00a0 Everyone\u2019s effectiveness depends at least in part on what they expect of themselves, not of others.<\/p><p><strong>Accepting responsibility is an essential difference between effective and less effective employers, teachers, principals \u2013 even parents.<\/strong><\/p><p>As teachers, we must examine our own acceptance of responsibility.\u00a0 More than that, we must help all teachers take responsibility for their classroom performance.\u00a0 If we all look in the mirror and ask, \u201cwho is the variable?\u201d we will make tremendous strides toward school improvement.\u00a0 This empowering approach raises the level of teacher efficacy and will eventually reach students.\u00a0 Success in any profession starts with a focus on self.\u00a0 After all, we are the one variable that we can most easily and productively influence.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who is the Variable?
